  • EFCA: From the “Are You Kidding Me” Department

NAM also has this quote from John Edwards, who says he isn’t worried about unions intimidating employees during anti-democratic card check organizing campaigns. Instead, he says: “The intimidation I fear is from person who pays their check.” Makes sense: doing away with the privacy of the voting booth will definitely cut down on intimidation, right?

  • EFCA: Senator Ted Can’t Tear the Truth

After returning from the ridiculously hot day that hosted Big Labor’s big rally to end workplace democracy, I neglected to mention a funny moment. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Labor) was none too happy with our full-page ad in yesteday’s New York Times, USA Today, and Roll Call. It simply used a union boss’s own words describing […]

  • EFCA: The Money’s in the Lobby

Posted on Jun 19, 2007 by Bret Jacobson

As we’ve noted, union bosses are lobbying and throwing cash at politicians in hopes of securing passage of the fantastically misnamed “Employee Free Choice Act.” The AP has more, with a piece on politicians pandering to union bosses and a sidebar explaining that 6 of the top 10 political donors are unions. Today, labor attorney Dmitri Iglitzen has a piece on TomPain(e).com suggesting that joining a union should be as easy as donating an organ. Let’s take his analogy a little further. Perhaps doctors should be able to take our organs whenever they want, just like labor bosses who deduct union dues without the consent of their […]

  • EFCA: AFL-CIO’s “Sad” Reversal on Voting Rights

    Posted on by Bret Jacobson

The AFL-CIO played an exceptional and praiseworthy role in the fight against Soviet tyranny, which truly oppressed labor rights, most notably in the union’s active and often covert support of Poland’s Solidarity movement. How sad that a once positive force for voting rights and freedom of association in Poland has abandoned those principles at home. […]

  • EFCA: The Big Con-nell

Posted on Jun 18, 2007 by J. Justin Wilson

Last week, AFL-CIO blogger Tula Connell penned a screed on TomPaine.com, suggesting that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) told Capitol Hill staffers that our study on illegal firings during organizing campaigns could not be substantiated. She wrote: Both Republican and Democratic Senate staff requested clarification on the group’s claims from the NLRB. Staff at […]
