Labor Pains: Because Being in a Union can be Painful

News Roundup: “It’s time to move on.”

Sen. Lincoln says “it’s time to move on.” While this doesn’t mean she wouldn’t support a compromise, it may point to the bill not coming up again this session. Here’s the full quote from the story:

“We don’t move at breakneck speed in Washington, and when you have something that is that divisive and that distracting — with the little time that we have to do health care reform and energy reform and to start tax reform in the fall, we’re going to be doing a tremendous amount of work,” she said. “And to stop and do something like that would completely eliminate our ability to focus and spend the kind of time that we need, so I think it’s time to move on.”

The Indianapolis Star has an op-ed against EFCA that interviews two business leaders. The piece raises issues that haven’t been talked about much: that EFCA would reduce R&D and capital investment. R&D, of course, helps American businesses stay ahead of global competition. A good take-away quote: “The American economy does not need businesses betting on sure things. The American economy needs business betting on the come a little bit.”
