The continuing saga of voter registration fraud by employees of the union-funded group ACORN took another turn yesterday. After removing nearly 1,800 fake voter registrations, prosecutors in Washington State have indicted seven former ACORN employees for filing those false forms. The Secretary of State said at a press conference that, “This is the worst case of voter-registration fraud in the history of the state of Washington.”

That may be true, but it’s just one of two cases in Washington where ACORN employees have been tied to possible fraud. The Secretary’s statement comes along with a price tag of $25,000 for ACORN, which has been forced to pay for the investigation into its own employees’ actions. Of course, ACORN continues to deny culpability, while at the same time agreeing to tighten the notoriously lax oversight of registration employees that has led to problems in more than a dozen states.

But as ACORN pretends it’s not a bad seed, keep the sheer scope of the problem in mind. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports: “Of the total of 1,805 names submitted by ACORN, nine were confirmed as valid registrations and 34 are still under investigation, the elections department spokeswoman said.”
