United Food and Commercial Workers leaders have called a picket outside a grocery store that’s only been up and running a short time. According to the store’s manager, he would have to shut down if the union came in:
He added, “But we cannot afford to join the union. We’d have to close the store. … If the store doesn’t do the numbers we’d like the store to do, we can’t afford to join the union.”
