Hotelier Says There’s No Room for UNITE HERE Tactics

UNITE HERE organizers continue to be the poster children for ethically challenged union organizing. Today we check in with the San Francisco Chronicle, where a local hotelier says UNITE HERE Local 2850 leaders are acting under the guise of a non-profit organization named EBASE (though “debase” may be a more appropriate term).

From Hugh MacIntosh, general manager of Woodfin Suites Hotel in Emeryville:

And while the unions feign interest in the economic livelihood of Emeryville and the welfare of workers, they think nothing of attempting to sabotage our hotel’s business by paying bullhorn-toting protesters to show up at our property at 7 a.m. on Saturdays to intimidate and annoy our employees, neighbors and guests.

Without the confidence to engage in transparent membership drives that offer workers a clear, honest picture of their working lives under a union regime, these organizations are left with no choice but to sell service and hospitality employees a bill of goods. Unfortunately, it’s the workers who ultimately will be left holding the bag.
