We recently discussed the supposed union wage gap over non-union jobs, but one recently unearthed example adds some anecdotal weight to the argument. This morning we came across one grocery employee’s blog post, which compares her experiences at a non-union employer and her current (apparently unsatisfying) job. She writes:
In other news , I hate Meijer, and I left early today because I had food poisoning and I ran over my ankle with the flat top that we use to take stuff off the shelf. I have to go back tomorrow but I’m debating how badly I really need that job, that only pays about $6.95 an hour. I was just making $8.50 in a non union call center. Now I work at a union grocery store, I work harder and make less. The union here is just a scam to make people think their getting paid better, and to give the illusion of job security. Local UFCW 951 can bite my albino ass.
