Sen. Tom Harkin Says Card Check May Be Dropped From EFCA

harkinSen. Tom Harkin from Iowa, who is a sponsor of EFCA, said yesterday that the card check provision may be dropped in order to pass the bill. Harkin says that there isn’t enough support for the card check provision that effectively eliminates secret ballots. According to Harkin, “it probably won’t be card-check because too many people are opposed to it now.”

Harkin hopes that some form of compromise if EFCA is passed and believes there is support for other elements of EFCA, such as changing the election process and procedures and shortening the period of time for union organizing elections.

The article does not mention whether Harkin discussed binding arbitration. That probably isn’t an area where the Senator is going to find compromise either.
