Overall, Bill Richardson’s day may have been the worst as Democratic presidential aspirants perspired for union support. The Associated Press reports “Democrats Seek to Impress Unions.” That is classic understatement. Between the real AP and the other AP — the far-left American Prospect — there is a lot of coverage of political promises to labor leaders:
- John Edwards said he wants “to be the president who is responsible for the greatest union growth in America”
- Bill Richardson — who explicitly says his goal is to get union membership to 20% — he said he would “fire all the union-busting attorneys at the NLRB” and joked about making Andy “Show Me The Members” Stern the Secretary of Labor. He also said that while all the Dems support replacing secret ballots with card check, “I did it.”
- Sen. Chris Dodd promised that “I’ll be a union guy inside the White House.”
There will be more to come.
