Labor Pains: Because Being in a Union can be Painful

Growing Number Of Dems Opposing EFCA

Orlando Sentinel‘s Beth Kassab reports on an increasing number of Democrats who are coming out in opposition to EFCA.

Two prominent Orlando, FL residents,  Roger Chapin and Joe Kefauver – both longtime Democrats who supported Obama – oppose EFCA, calling it an “over-reach” by their party.

Chapin supports the right to unionize, but contended that EFCA “tilts the playing field  too far.” Chapin, an executive at Mears Transportation, said that unions tried to organize workers  last year at his company. Organizers collected more than 50 percent in cards, but lost the secret ballot election by 70 percent.

Kefauver, a public affairs consultant, says that supporting labor shouldn’t be the only “litmus test for being a good Democrat.”
