Labor Pains: Because Being in a Union can be Painful

TeachTube: Teachers Invade Their Union

Last week the board of the Teachers Association of Long Beach (California) voted to fire the union’s executive director. Ironically enough, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports, the ex-exec claims that his termination “would violate his employment contract, which he says provides for progressive discipline, due process and binding arbitration” — the very same privileges enjoyed by most tenured teachers (whether they’re actually good at their jobs or not).

Angry with the board’s decision, about 70 teachers stormed the union’s offices. Their president told them: “We’ve called the police.”

And, as Mike Antonucci has pointed out, it’s all on video.
